Connecting Kids to Meals

Once summer hits and school is out, kids living in poverty might not receive proper food during the day.
We provide free, well- balanced meals . The menus are varied. Most meals are steam-cooked to lock in nutrients without adding fat. We never offer fried foods and the food we serve is minimally processed.
As part of the Summer Meal Program, Connecting Kids to Meals partners with summer locations where kids gather. These partner locations include schools, libraries, parks, pools, churches and community centers. This will be our 16th year, being a sponsor of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Our meals meet or exceed the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Child Nutrition requirements. Our program is designed to provide healthy meals to kids for free while school is out. The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) is the state agency responsible for oversight of the program here in Ohio, and helps to insure compliance with the program requirements involving nutrition standards, record keeping and food safety.
Last summer, we partnered with 145 sites and provided more than 7500 nutritionally balanced meals each day. We trained hundreds of individuals to serve and deliver meals at site locations. This summer, we are expecting approximately 185 site locations and to possibly reach a new record number of daily meals. We feel confident that we will more than surpass the 250,000 meals that were served last year during the summer.
This is a good program. Everyone here likes it a lot. I think this program is keeping kids out of trouble, providing food and fun activities!J.R. age 12, Brand Whitlock
